The Bush Legacy

Saturday, January 28th, 2006

by Sharon Sanders

We are now entering the sixth year of a presidency that is the scariest in my lifetime. Scary in the sense, we have a president who has tunnel vision and lacks curiosity about the world around him. He appears unaware of the issues, uneducated and inarticulate, and makes decisions based on his conversations with God. He removes himself from his constituency, has no understanding about the very Constitution that gave him the privilege of being elected, and surrounds himself with like-minded individuals who want to arbitrarily declare war, decide the morals for the rest of us, control our private lives, and see diversity of cultures and difference of opinions as a threat.

Henry Giroux on Fascism in the U.S.

Monday, January 23rd, 2006

An eye-opening analysis of current trends - this interview was played on Pacifica Radio’s Against the Grain in early January this year. I learned quite a bit even though I thought I was already aware of the issues.

Is the US becoming, or is it already, a fascist state? In Against the New Authoritarianism, veteran educator Henry Giroux identifies the central features of fascism and examines whether they are in evidence today. Among other things, he emphasizes ongoing attacks on public space and the militarization of domestic culture.

In support of the national campaign of 911truth.org.

NOTE: Kevin Barrett sends his regrets - he is snowed in and will not be able to attend tonight.

The U.S. has been fighting an undeclared war in Iraq for nearly three years. Osama Bin Laden is still at large. Much of the official 9/11 report remains censored to this day. An administration that does not trust its citizens expects us to trust their story, however incomplete and inconsistent it may be.

Join us in Palatine at Fremd High School for a review of recent developments (such Able Danger and work by Prof. Steven Jones of Brigham Young University), discussion of the events of 9/11 - what happened that day, how it has driven events since then, and where we go from here.

Kevin Barrett, co-founder of MUJCA-NET, the Muslim-Jewish-Christian Alliance for 9/11 Truth, will join us for the discussion. Dr. Barrett has taught English, French, Arabic, American Civilization, Humanities, African Literature, Folklore, and Islam at colleges and universities in the San Francisco Bay area, Paris, and Madison, Wisconsin.

Excerpts of current videos will be shown, drawing from such features as Eric Hufschmid’s Painful Questions, Richard Siegel’s 911 Eyewitness, and Michael Ruppert’s Denial Stops Here.

Audiobook: Exception to the Rulers

Monday, January 2nd, 2006

The Exception to the Rulers Audiobook is essential listening for anyone concerned with what is going on in the world today. This box set of 10 CD’s is a complete recording of Amy Goodman reading the book she authored with her brother David Goodman. But the audio version has something not in the print editions - numerous audio segments from the daily news broadcast DemocracyNOW. These segments bring the already gripping chapters to life, putting the listener on the scene as the stories unfold.
